College 15

We've all heard of the freshmen 15 before heading off into the college world. As a freshman, I didn't gain my freshmen 15, luckily!! However, when I transferred to SU, I definitely put on the lbs! I think that during any year of college the 15 lbs can pile on!

This leads me into my post for today... choosing between the guilty choices of health y or junk food. The cafeteria isn’t always the best place to eat. With an unlimited amount of food, portions are less likely to become a concern. This is where the weight can really begin to pile on. If students eat at places on campus where they are given only a specific amount, they have less of a chance of piling their plates and going back for seconds or thirds.

After graduating, I have really seen some of my friends’ bodies change. They no longer take in the excessive calories due to the cafeteria choices or alcoholic drinks on the weekend. I wouldn’t be worried if the freshmen 15 have taken over your body or the 20. With the right amount of exercise and portion control, college students can control their weight gain.

So, remember your portion control and always eat breakfast. Your body has to wake up and get its’ metabolism going. Make healthier choices when it comes to snacks and don’t let the guilty choices get you down!

  1. I liked your post on eating healthy. I find it easier to stray from bad choices if I know the amount of good foods I should be putting into my body (4 portions of veggies, etc.). Having a meal plan is like being a kid in a candy store. Thanks for voicing such concerns and solutions.

  4. Rochelle,

Wow! I like an person who has a strong point of view! Good for you. Here are some thoughts:

Consider expanding the religion post to an ongoing discussion (maybe informally poll your friends and get some quotes--and get some pics of you talking with your friends about this topic)--this is truly an excellent topic and could actually fill a blog, I think.

I would drop the repeated stained glass window pic--one of them--since they are so similar.

Personalize the blog with more pics of you and/or you and your friends sleeping in, eating, or doing something sort of relevant to the posts. People will be more apt to read them if there's an accompanying pic of you.

I really think you should consider changing this template (which you can do, even now after starting the blog) because it's not very inviting and you will want to start discussions with your comments. It's rather goth and intimidating.

Your posts are rather long a bit redundant (though strongly stated, which is good). I would cut them down by a third (from now on--and maybe go back and revise by deleting redundancies) or make some of the text into lists. Be pithier and more concise. For instance: the first post buries the lead. You need to get right into what the blog is going to be about.

The gadgets are a bit overwhelming. Work with them on the design page (move them around). Don't put the quotes box at the top of the top screen--it looks like an ad or Google links box or something (and this will turn away some potential readers).

This is a very, very good start. Keep them coming!
